S:ta Clara kyrka - St. Clara's Church
S:ta Clara kyrka (English: Church of Saint Clare), also known as Klara kyrka, is a Lutheran church in the Norrmalm district of central Stockholm, situated on Klara Västra Kyrkogata. A convent and place of worship dedicated to Saint Clare has existed on the site since the 1280s, though the original buildings were demolished in 1527 on the orders of King Gustav Vasa during the Reformation. Construction of the present church commenced in 1577 under King Johan III, with two Dutch master builders, Henrik van Huwen and Willem Boy, overseeing its completion in 1590. The church tower, a defining feature of central Stockholm's skyline, was added during restoration works in the 1880s and rises to 116 metres, making it one of the tallest church towers in Sweden. The interior features painted vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, and carved woodwork. The church also contains a 35-bell carillon cast by the Bergholtz Bellfoundry in 1965. Since 1989, the Swedish Evangelical Mission has overseen its activities.
