Grand Hôtel Stockholm
Grand Hôtel Stockholm is a five-star luxury hotel located on the waterfront of Blasieholmen in central Stockholm, Sweden. Overlooking the Royal Palace and Gamla stan across the Strömmen waterfront, the hotel is regarded as one of Sweden’s most prestigious hospitality establishments. It was founded in 1874 by French chef and entrepreneur Régis Cadier, who sought to create a grand hotel comparable to those of continental Europe.
Since its opening, the Grand Hôtel has hosted numerous heads of state, royalty, Nobel laureates, and international celebrities. Its proximity to the Stockholm Concert Hall and Stockholm City Hall has made it a traditional residence for Nobel Prize laureates during the annual Nobel Prize ceremonies in December. The hotel has also served as a venue for diplomatic meetings, banquets, and cultural events.
The building has undergone several renovations and expansions to modernize its facilities while preserving its historic character. The hotel features multiple restaurants and bars, including the Michelin-starred restaurant Frantzén at one period housed within its premises, as well as the Veranda restaurant, known for its traditional Swedish smörgåsbord.
Today, the Grand Hôtel remains an important landmark in Stockholm’s cityscape and a symbol of late 19th-century hospitality and architectural ambition in Sweden.
