Coney Island Beach

Coney Island is a neighborhood and entertainment district in southwestern Brooklyn, New York City, bordered by Brighton Beach, Lower New York Bay, and Gravesend. It includes Sea Gate to the west. Historically, Coney Island was part of Gravesend and became a popular seaside resort in the 19th century, with amusement parks opening by the late 1800s. Though its attractions declined after World War II, Coney Island was revitalized in the 2000s with the opening of Maimonides Park and new amusement rides. The area is ethnically diverse, with a population of about 32,000 and a poverty rate of 27%. It is served by the 60th Precinct and several public services.
