Empire State Trail
The Empire State Trail is a multi-use pathway in New York State, initiated by Governor Andrew Cuomo in January 2017 and finished in December 2020. It stretches from Manhattan to the Canada–United States border at Rouses Point, near the northern end of Lake Champlain, and also connects Buffalo to Albany. At 750 miles (1,210 km), it is the longest multi-use trail in the country. The trail incorporates existing segments, which keep their original names but are now co-branded as part of the Empire State Trail. It also connects to various regional biking and hiking trails, including the Appalachian Trail, the Adirondack and Catskill Parks, the Great Lakes Seaway Trail, and the Genesee Valley Greenway, among others. A portion at its southern end along the Hudson River Greenway in Manhattan coincides with the East Coast Greenway. This trail is popular for activities such as hiking, biking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and in some areas, snowmobiling.
