Das Wiener Rathaus
Vienna City Hall (Wiener Rathaus), located on Rathausplatz in the Innere Stadt district, serves as the seat of the local government. Built between 1872 and 1883 in a neo-Gothic style by architect Friedrich von Schmidt, it houses the Mayor's office, the city council, and the Vienna Landtag. The old town hall became too small by the mid-19th century, prompting a competition for a new building, which Schmidt won. The City Hall's facade, inspired by Flemish and Brabant Gothic architecture, features five towers, including a 98-meter central tower. The building, covering 113,000 m² with 2,987 rooms, includes the historic Rathauskeller restaurant. The large Rathauspark is located opposite.
