Unterer Heuberg, Altstadt Grossbasel street
The Old Town Grossbasel is a district of the Swiss city of Basel and refers to the part of the Old Town on the left bank of the Rhine. Together with the Old Town Kleinbasel, it forms the historic center of the city.
The district boundary runs exactly along the former city wall dating back to 1200 and most of the historic buildings, such as Basel City Hall and Basel Minster, as well as archaeological sites from Roman times can be found in this area.
The old town of Grossbasel only borders on one other district, namely the suburbs (Petersgraben, Leonhardsgraben, Kohlenberg, Steinenberg, St. Alban-Graben). With the Mittlere Brücke and the Basel ferries, it is also connected to its counterpart Altstadt Kleinbasel on the other side of the Rhine.
