Meister Sonnenfros Hus, Altstadt, Basel
The lower corner house in this row bears the name “Meister Sonnenfros Hus” and the year 1437 visible on the façade and has housed craftsmen of various trades since that time, including tailors, shoemakers and the eponymous Pedro Sonnenfro, a blacksmith with a keel knife.
Since 1983, this house, which is probably one of the smaller ones in the canton of Basel-Stadt with a floor area of 14m2, has housed a writing room: the Scriptorium am Rheinsprung of calligrapher Andreas Schenk, probably the last full-time scribe with his own office.
