Il Grande Disco by Arnaldo Pomodoro
**Grande Disco** is a bronze sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro from 1972, located in Milan.
It is one of the most significant works in the artist’s career, as he sought to give the sculpture a sense of torsion to make it more dynamic and to represent the proportions of man as inscribed in a circle by Leonardo da Vinci. The Disc is constructed starting from the central point so that the fulcrum or pivot represents the head, with open arms and legs, creating an effect of expansion.
Today, one can admire a double golden bronze circle, placed on a rotating structure within a flower bed, creating a stark contrast between the metallic sculpture and the grass. Another evident contrast lies between the dynamism of the curved lines and the rigid, straight lines that carve into the disc. The structure is traversed by fissures resembling rays and is composed of numerous geometric shapes welded together.
