Chambers Street station, (IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line)
The Chambers Street station is an express stop on the IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line in Manhattan, located at Chambers Street and West Broadway, serving the TriBeCa and Financial District areas. It is consistently served by the 1 and 2 trains, and by the 3 train except during late-night hours.
Opened on July 1, 1918, as part of the IRT's expansion under the Dual Contracts, Chambers Street was initially part of a shuttle service between Times Square and South Ferry. The station’s platforms were extended in the 1960s to accommodate longer trains. Renovations in the 2000s, including the installation of elevators, made it compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Dual Contracts, signed in 1913, aimed to expand and improve the city’s subway network. As part of this, a new Seventh Avenue Line was constructed, extending south through West Broadway to better serve Manhattan’s West Side. Over the years, the station and its surrounding areas underwent significant upgrades and transformations.
