Michaelertrakt, Hofburg
In addition to Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt's 1725 project, there are three plans for the Michaelertrakt by Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach. The second, created in late 1725, successfully challenged Hildebrandt's design, while the third, from 1726, was only executed in 1890 with slight changes. A first, idealized design from around 1722, showcased Fischer's early talents, featuring two wings and a grand plaza. The final project introduced a dynamic, harmonious facade. Fischer’s design was later adapted for Berlin's Fridericianum Forum (1775–1780) under Frederick the Great’s request.
